Preserving Tradition or Modernizing Traditional Japanese Clothing?

Kimono are one of the oldest and most beautiful traditional Japanese clothing pieces that are still found throughout Japan today. Although generally used for special occasions as opposed to everyday wear, they are a wonderful sight to see, especially during graduation and coming of age celebrations since they are the times when most youths dress up in their finest.

In modern times, these traditional pieces have been changing with the addition of more modern details like lace trim, Western style shoes and trendy accessories. This along with a more sloppy form of wearing the clothing (which is quite common to see among Tokyo fashion in general) has become the new way to dress up in traditional wear.

Do you think traditional clothing should stay as it always has or should they get a modern facelift?
